Location & History
The Claryville Reformed Church, a member of the Reformed Church in America, is nestled between two mountains on the border of the Catskill Preserve – quaint, rural, and serene, yet only two-and-a-half hours from the Greater New York Metropolitan area. Established in 1849, the Claryville Reformed Church has played an important role in the life of this community for over 170 years.
Once a center for the tanning and lumber industries, Claryville today honors its history but is a much quieter community. The residents care deeply about each other, their rural lifestyle and mountain environment they share. Among them are artists, weekenders and summer residents.
Congregation
Our congregation resides in Claryville and the neighboring towns of Denning, Oliveria, Grahamsville, and Neversink. We are the only church from Curry to Oliveria or from the Neversink Reservoir and the entire length of the East and West branch of the Neversink River.
We are passionate about our mission “Serving God in our community and beyond.”Although we are small, we are a strong group of individuals who are a caring and welcoming congregation.
Our Church
We have a beautiful historic church in a rural setting, and an excellent modern hall with a commercial kitchen and pastor’s study. The hall is used for Sunday School and is available for weddings, meetings, receptions, funerals, and for fundraising luncheons, dinners, and potluck suppers. It is also home to the Quilting Club, which was founded in the 1920s.
Next to the church Hall is our one-room schoolhouse museum. This was the last one-room schoolhouse to join the central district and it remains exactly as it was when it closed in 1956.
